Michael Lange Reflects on His Internship with Sign Pro

Michael Lange is currently an incoming junior at Endicott College, where he is majoring in marketing. Also at Endicott, Michael is an active member of the community. He is a member of the men’s lacrosse team, a member of the dean’s list, works in admissions, and is also on a few boards associated with the school.
After completing his time in Sign Pro’s internship program, we asked him to reflect on his experience with us, and this was his response:
“Working with Sign Pro was my first internship experience. I didn’t know exactly what to expect; was I going to have a role that matters or was I going to be doing coffee runs as you often hear interns doing? On my first day at Sign Pro, I got my answer to this question. Right when I got to work on my first day, I had a meeting with the person that I was shadowing. He asked me what I wanted out of my time with them and he told me what they wanted from me during my time there. I knew then that I would be given roles that mattered and had a lasting effect on the company.
I was given three goals and objectives to complete during my duration of the internship:

  1. Plan, execute, and launch social platforms
  2. Launch special sales project for a high profile client
  3. Gain sales and marketing knowledge through shadowing my boss daily

When I received these goals, I knew that a lot of work had to be done within a short period of time. But honestly that is exactly what I wanted; I wanted to be put to the test. These goals also gave me a chance to experience a ton of different aspects of business. This was really helpful due to the fact that I still don’t know for 100% what I want to do as a career in the future.
People would always ask me what I enjoyed the most about my internship and it honestly was very hard for me to decide. But I think the part of my internship that I enjoyed the most and that I felt can help me with any job I do in the future was shadowing my boss, who was the Vice President  of Business Development. I enjoyed seeing the way he went about certain things. Particularly the way he handled his day to day conversations with people. It was really interesting and educational to see how he talked to potential clients, partners, employees and such. Every person is different in this world and every person needs to be handled differently. These are life lessons that will be with me forever.
Being an athlete, I am always associated with the term “family.” You consider your teammates family and you know that each and everyone one of them would do anything for you as if they were family. At Sign Pro I got the same feeling. I would consider the company a family atmosphere. In my opinion, this is one of the most important things in the business world. To be at work and know everyone has each other’s back is a great feeling. I never felt alone during my time here and I knew I could reach out to anyone if I ever had any questions.
After completing my internship, a lot of people asked me if I felt like I knew what I wanted to do. Obviously this is a hard question to answer, but being able to do numerous jobs at Sign Pro helped me get more of an idea. I now really think I want to have a career in sales where I can have a good mix of being out in the field building relationships with customers and being in the office getting work done with a team. I got to shadow a member of the sales team at Sign Pro and I really enjoyed what a day was like for this career.
Overall, my experience at Sign Pro was exceptional. I got to meet great people and had a very educational experience. I would highly consider working for a company such as Sign Pro in the future, and would recommend anyone interested in a career or even an internship to look into this company.
I just wanted to conclude, by once again thanking Sign Pro for taking me in and teaching me so much! “
